China exempts wide variety of Vietnam exports from tariffs

28/05/2019
China has exempted tariffs on 33 Vietnamese seafood exports, reports Vietnam News, citing the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

The products include lobster, tiger shrimp, sea shrimp, cod, clams, pangasius, round scads, tuna, and octopus.

More than 150 Vietnamese enterprises export seafood products to China, including some 45 pangasius enterprises and nearly 50 shrimp exporters. With China easing its import policy, Vietnam is expected to enhance its exports to the world's most populous market.

China is considered one of the most important markets for Vietnamese seafood, with export values reaching over $1 billion per year. In 2017, Vietnamese seafood exports to China increased nearly 50% to $1.3bn.

Truong Dinh Hoe, VASEP secretary general, said the fishery industry has set a target to export over $1.5bn in seafood products to China this year.
